The Southcentral Pennsylvania AHEC’s Health Career Awareness Camp will motivate and challenge high school students during a weeklong residential camp. The program is held on a local college campus during the 2nd week of July.
Our camp offers students a realistic and up-close look into a variety of health careers, including the high demand for healthcare professionals in rural and underserved areas. We work with healthcare organizations, professionals in the community and post-secondary educational institutions to provide students with the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experiences. These experiences include job shadowing, participation in simulation labs, and exploration of various healthcare professions through classroom workshops.

Students interested in applying should have an interest in a health career.
Students must be incoming high school freshman, sophomores, juniors or seniors.
Students must reside in Adams, Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Fulton, Huntingdon, Indiana, Juniata, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, Somerset or York counties.
Enrollment is limited to 20 students.
In the 17 years that we have been holding the camp, we have reached over 300 students. Our outcomes show that out of the students completing our program and eligible for post-secondary education:
98% have entered a health related field of study.
92% of our health camp alumni have become healthcare professionals and are practicing in Pennsylvania.
